Nine of the top 25 neighborhoods actually fall inside the Portland city limits where the rest lie just outside in suburbs and outer communities. St. Johns - Located in North Portland, this peninsula nestled between the Columbia and Willamette river is popular due to its close proximity to the University of Portland.  Home and condominium prices start at about $170,000-$500,000.

Sellwood /  East Moreland -  Located close to the river in Southeast Portland. This eclectic neighborhood offers trendy coffee shops, a high walk score and family-friendly neighborhood with homes priced from $200,000-$650,000.

Tigard -  Located south of Portland by about 10 or 15 minutes depending on traffic, this tightknit community is close to shopping malls, modern commerce, yet tucked away along the base of Bull Mountain with beautiful views, stylish homes and lush landscaping.  Home start about $200,000 for condominiums and upwards of $400,000-$600,000 for single family homes.

Hillsboro -  Located west of Beaverton and 17 miles from downtown Portland, this diverse area offers unique shopping, farmland, vineyards and larger estates. Homes are priced from $250,000 to over $1 million depending on size, lot size and condition.

Beaverton -  For the last 10 years, Beaverton Oregon has been a very popular location for home buyers located just 7 miles west of Portland and only an hour from the coast. This fantastic area is filled with parks, hiking trails, forest like settings and beautiful homes starting at just $120,000.

Multnomah Village -  Nestled in Southwest Portland's most popular West Hills neighborhood, this charming and quaint part of town features a rich variety of resources, farmers markets, trendy coffee shops, brew pubs and wine bars. It's close to public schools and colleges. Home prices start about $250,000.

Happy Valley -  Located east of Portland and Clackamas, Happy Valley is a beautifully scenic area with tall trees, beautiful views and a lot of new construction. There's great shopping, great prices and larger homes. Real estate starts at about $270,000.

Foster Powell -  Located in Southeast Portland, this revitalized neighborhood offers numerous historical homes as well as new construction perfect for those looking for a bungalow, tutor or ranch-style homes close to schools and parks. Home prices range from about $150,000-$350,000.

Forest Heights -  This neighborhood comes in at number one, also called Northwest Heights, and is located in the Northwest Portland Hills on the west slope of West Hills. This is one of the most prestigious and neighborhoods in Portland with top schools, beautiful homes, restaurants and less than 15 minutes from downtown Portland. Home prices start at about $450,000. 

 Forest Hills continues to be one of the top places for homeowners and buyers throughout the Portland metro area. In the second quarter of 2014 there were 371 homes sold in this ZIP Code alone. That's compared with the #25 spot on the list which was the neighborhood of Sherwood, selling just 119 homes for the second quarter of 2014.
