Washington County Homes
Washington County Oregon was named after Pres. George Washington in 1849 but was originally named Twality after the Tualatin River. The county sits in the Tualatin Valley and the River does run through it. It’s bordered by the Northern Oregon coastal range on the north and the Chehalem Mountains on the south with the Tualatin Mountains on the east. It is home to about 530,000 residents making it the second most populous county in the state behind Clackamas County. The County seat is Hillsboro and includes some other major cities such as Beaverton, Tigard and Forest Grove.
About half the county is forced it areas while the other half is neighborhoods and residential communities such as Hillsboro and Beaverton. The Tualatin River national wildlife refuge is also located in this county and Highway 26 runs North West to East right into downtown Portland. I5 also runs North and South through the eastern edge of the county itself. It’s bordered by Clackamas County which is home to the major city of Portland.
Things to Do
Some of the best things to do in Washington County are discover the local events, wildlife, and activities in the area such as the Tree to Tree Adventure Park. Enjoy treetop obstacles and zip lines as you fly over the Willamette Valley. Enjoy hot air balloon rides and glider plane rides as well.
Take a bicycle trip through dozens of scenic bike friendly trails such as the Banks Verona State Trail. Get a good idea of Oregon seemed Willamette Valley wine country with nearly 30 wineries within the county itself. Take a gander at some of the local artists with their museums and galleries such as the Glen and Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center, the Washington County Museum, and the Hoffman Gallery of Art.
There are several theaters in the area such as the Broadway Rose, Beaverton Civic Theater, and the Hillsboro Artists Repertory Theater. Don’t forget around of golf while you’re here at The Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course and some of the other public and semi private golf courses around the county. Finish off the evening in style with some of the best ethnic cuisine in the County.
